Colonie, New York is the largest suburb of Albany. Set just north of the capital, it rivals Albany with its mall, parks and notariety. From 1989-1994 the Albany-Colonie Yankees had residency in Heritage Park.
Many players made their way through the Yankees affiliate, most notable is Derek Jeter, Mariano Rivera and Andy Pettitte. But what most poeple don’t know is that Colonie is also home to the regions largest wiffelball league. You heard that right.
Since 1974 the Colonie Wiffleball League has carried on childhood dreams into the reality of a full-fledged regulation sized infield and stadium-lit backyard ballpark where the league continues to perform hundreds of games annually.
We sent our own Greg Aidala to see what the league is all about and even take a swing or two himself in one of America’s favorite pastime sports.
