Northern California has been struck by travesty because of these wild fires, 36 people have lost their lives and thousands of others have been evacuated. Over two hundred thousand acres of land have been torched with no stoppage in sight as first responders fight to put out the flames.
Celebrity Chef Guy Fieri, a Santa Rosa resident was evacuated from his home earlier in the week. So Fieri teamed up with the Salvation Army and cooked meals for the victims and first responders. “So I called the Salvation Army in Santa Rosa and I said, ‘I’m ready, I’ve got an army, I’m ready to help,'” Fieri told KQED. “And they said, ‘Bring it.'”
He created his own station with the help from friends and family while he manned a wood-fired oven and a BBQ smoker. Fieri cooked up some pulled pork, mac n cheese, coleslaw for roughly 1,200 people Thursday afternoon and expecting even more at night.
“This isn’t a PR stunt,” he said. “You don’t see my banners up. I’m not promoting anything. I’m just here cooking. This is feeding people. People need help, and I’m here to help. That’s it.”
Pretty awesome thing for him to do. Some of the images coming from that area look like something you’d see in an apocalyptic film. It’s a class act move that will go a long way for these people. Nothing beats a home cooked meal.
