Good news for beer lovers: Shmaltz Brewing will be opening a tasting room in Troy soon. Like real soon. The Albany Times Union reported earlier this week that the Clifton Park brewery will be occupying a prime spot in Monument Square (the former Subway location).
The new shop will offer its tasting room, a selection of wine, beer and spirits for retail, and an eatery featuring a small menu of street food showing love to the brewery’s Jewish, Lower East Side heritage.
We’ve heard rumblings that though it might not open until 2018, a few pop-up shops could be expected while they’re gearing up to debut the finalized, decorated space.
And needless to say, the city of Troy is hyped to have another great addition to the movie theater-less Monument Square.
The tasting room will be hoppin’ (get it) during the warmer months because the Troy Farmer’s Market will literally be right outside its doors, but with the offerings of some retail and good eats, it’s sure to be a hit all year long.
The Collar City keeps getting better and better with cool places to go out to, and our Two Buttons Deep writers are no strangers to how awesome Shmaltz is, so we’re eager for their new venture.
If you asked anyone around here 10-15 years ago if they wanted to go out in Troy, they probably laugh at you. Now it’s the opposite, I certainly enjoy going out there now and am happy to see the craft beer scene continues to thrive as Shmaltz’s joins the party.
PS: In the meantime, I highly recommend spending a Sunday afternoon at the Clifton Park tasting room. Bagels and Schmear + a beer = perfection.
