Saratoga SantaCon 101 with James Claus

Boy do I love this time of year. Last week, I mentioned that you should check out Holiday Lights in the Park and now I will tell you what event gets James AKA Ked Claus in the right frame of mind…

Saratoga SantaCon

There are absolute can’t miss events that Saratoga offers throughout the course of the year: The Travers Day race at the Saratoga Racecourse in August, February’s Chowderfest on Broadway and yes, of course, SantaCon in December. SantaCon gives you an excuse to dress up like Santa, an elf, or in any type of holiday costume, and at the same time allows you to get your freak on.

This blog is going to tell you where to go to set up, what bars to hit and James Claus’ top 3 things you will undoubtedly see at the 6th Annual event on December 16.

Step 1: Registration

One of the reasons Christmas is so awesome is because of the giving –there is no better feeling than giving someone a gift knowing that it will help make their day. At 1 o’clock on the 16th, make sure you go to the Putnam Den to register for SantaCon. The cost? 5 or more non-perishable food items which will all go directly to the Franklin Community Center. Yeah that’s right, there’s no 20 dollar cover. It’s 5 or more items that will help a family enjoy the holidays!

Step 2: Start Crawlin’

After you hit up the Putnam Den, we will then have ourselves a Bar Crawl. As per Saratoga.com:

Please show up at Putnam Den promptly at 1:00PM for the Kick-Off Party. Then, we will make our way through town to The Ice House, Clancy’s Tavern, Gaffney’s, The Saratoga City Tavern, Spa City Tap & Barrel, Caroline St. Pub, and the Winter Wonderland known as The Reserve Night Club.

The Reserve Night Club will be hosting a meet and greet with the real Saint Nick with all sorts of surprises and gifts! One lucky Santa will win a vacation to Jamaica. You must be on the “nice list,” so be sure to check-in the day of the event.

Pretty simple, right? Oh and did someone say Jamaica?

OK, now on to the fun stuff. As the resident Christmas fanatic and Saratoga aficionado here at 2BD, I want to tell you Jame Claus’ 3 Things That You Will Undoubtedly See at Saratoga SantCon. If you’re new to this event, I want to make sure you know what you’re getting yourself into.

1. Two Different Types of Couples

Yes, there will be a whole lot of this. SantaCon can, and in fact will, be an emotional roller coaster. After one or two or a dozen drinks the emotions begin to soar and you will be seeing all ends of the spectrum out at the bar. But just remember, at the end of the day Christmas is something every single soul should, and will, be jolly about.

2. Some People Who Really, Really Love Elf

We elves try to stick to the four main food groups: candy, candy canes, candy corns, and syrup. Oh yeah, and alcohol. TONS of alcohol. If you aren’t dressed up as Santa then there’s a 95 percent chance that you will be dressed up like Buddy the Elf. This definitely brings a good twist to SantaCon. Not only will you be seeing Santa, the greatest of all time, but you will see a bunch of Buddy’s running around quoting the movie word for word. Oh, they also might just act like him too.

3. Someone Who Missed The Memo

Some people just aren’t the biggest Christmas fans. You know what James Claus says to that? Bah Humbug. But don’t worry, these people are actually pretty cool. Not everyone has a Santa Suit or a Elf costume, some people just live to booze. Also, seeing someone not dressed up in SantaCon apparel makes them the asshole which is pretty ironic considering there will be hundreds of grown ass men and women dressed up like Santa Claus or Buddy. Irony at it’s finest, baby.

If you’re going to Saratoga SantaCon, after reading this, you have probably learned you should definitely try and meet up with us! The 2BD squad will be there filming a video and capturing everything that I just explained to you. It is going to be an EPIC time and we hope to see you there.
