Four college fraternities have been suspended for racist behavior in the past four years. Just wanted to start this off with that.
And now it hits home at Syracuse University’s Theta Tau…
(Source) The Syracuse University chapter of Theta Tau was suspended Wednesday morning after the university confirmed it was involved in the creation of online videos showing fraternity members engaging in behaviors that were “extremely racist, anti-Semitic, homophobic, sexist, and hostile to people with disabilities,” Chancellor Kent Syverud said in a campus-wide email.
In recordings obtained by The Daily Orange showing the videos, which were filmed in Theta Tau’s house, a person forces another person to his knees and asks him to repeat an “oath” including racial slurs.
“I solemnly swear to always have hatred in my heart for n*ggers, sp*cs and most importantly the f*ckin’ k*kes,” the person on his knees repeats.
I must admit, this one pulled out all the ethnic slurs. Solemnly swearing for the rest of their lives to hate niggers? Calling Jews ‘kikes’ and telling them to get in the ‘shower’? A professional engineering fraternity doing its initiation through dull, deadpan, racist humor just makes me think how unnecessary it all is.
But hey, at least they spread the wealth and didn’t just rip African-Americans apart…
Theta Tau is just another fraternity receiving nationwide backlash for their exposed racism. Remember SAE at the University of Oklahoma chapter when they released the viral jingle “There will never be a nigger in SAE” in 2015?
Cal Poly suspended their LXA chapter last week after they had a multicultural even which featured…blackface.
This has been so played out. Do you really need to go that far bruh? Honestly though, this is pretty widespread in Greek culture. Syracuse’s newspaper, The Daily Orange, even said this when writing about the Theta Tau incident.
These incidents are more annoying than anything else because most of them are corny and trash. It’s one thing to be racist, it’s another thing to pull it off poorly.
You wonder why you don’t see brothas saying “Saturdays are for the Boys”? This frat boy steez isn’t really anything new. It’s like moldy bread. Both the taste and appeal worsen as the years keep on passing by.
As for the brothers at Syracuse, they have been rightfully suspended for the ’18-’19 school year. The school also held a conference in wake of the backlash, and hundreds packed the house to have their voices heard.
During a public forum at Hendricks Chapel on Wednesday night, which lasted more than three hours, students demanded action from SU in response to the videos. More than 400 students packed into the chapel.
“The one thing I want to say … is that there are faculty members that have you guys’ backs in ways that you all have no clue,” said Biko Gray, an assistant professor of religion. “So, I just really want to tell you if you all want me to be in a strategizing session, let a n*gga know.”
Frat dudes like those at Theta Tau are a unison of fools who can’t understand why they can’t help but hate blacks, asians, and jews. They wear the same name brand clothes, drive parent-funded lavish coupes, and party with the same chicks over and over again.
The only way rushing an organization like this would be appealing is if pledges were to respect humanity til the day you die…
